SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Good Things Utah) – April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month across the United States. This April, ABC4, CW30, Good Things Utah is partnering with Prevent Child Abuse Utah and the NAACP Salt Lake Branch to create awareness, build hope, and call for support from people everywhere to help prevent child abuse. Child abuse is 100% preventable.
Prevent Child Abuse Utah focuses on strengthening families and prevention education through it’s school and community based prevention courses and home visiting programs.
The facts and statistics are unfortunate and unacceptable. In Utah, 1 in 7 children are sexually abuse before they turn 18, according to Prevent Child Abuse Utah research. More than half of calls made to Child Protective Services in Utah are for reports of neglect. Prevent Child Abuse Utah and other nonprofit abuse prevention organizations say we can change these numbers, and do a better job of protecting children and educating them about abuse prevention.
Prevention begins with awareness and education. Help spread the word this week by committing to wear the color blue on Friday, April 5th – National Wear Blue Day.
