SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (Good Things Utah) – Every child deserves to grow up in a world filled with love, safety, and opportunity. Yet, in Utah, 1 in 7 children will experience sexual abuse by the time they turn 18. This April, Prevent Child Abuse Utah is shining a light on these troubling realities during National Child Abuse Prevention Month. Laurieann Thorpe and Wyatt Welch came to Good Things Utah to share more about what they are doing to help.

As a dedicated nonprofit, Prevent Child Abuse Utah is focused on raising awareness and preventing child abuse and neglect across the state. With a mission to ensure every child grows up in a safe environment, they provide vital education and resources to the public. The organization works to provide guidance on how to discuss child abuse prevention with children in an age-appropriate way, and how to respond if you suspect abuse.

This year’s theme, Powered by Hope, Strengthened by Prevention, aims to create a future where every child feels safe and loved. The nonprofit is also participating in a Wear Blue Day on Friday, April 4th, as a visual symbol of the fight against child abuse. If you wear blue in honor of child abuse prevention and tag Prevent Child Abuse Utah on social media, they will repost your photo!
