Position: Education Specialist
Salary: From $18.50/hour - 32 hours/week
Status: Full-time
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Ability to Relocate: Salt Lake City, UT 84115: Relocate before starting work (required)
Work Location: Daily commute on location at elementary schools across the Wasatch Front. When not teaching, the Education Team works at Prevent Child Abuse Utah's Salt Lake Office (2121 S State Street Salt Lake City, UT 84115), occasional overnight travel to rural counties.

Through initiatives including education programs on abuse recognition and reporting for both children and adults, evidence-based home visiting support for parents, and more, Prevent Child Abuse Utah is dedicated to this vital cause.
Job Summary
The Education Specialist’s purpose is to prevent child abuse in Utah. During the school year, the team teaches classroom presentations on location in Utah’s public, charter and private schools. Other responsibilities are completed at the Salt Lake City office (2121 S State Street). Occasionally, the team travels to rural schools, requiring overnight stays for 1-5 nights. The Education Specialist teaches Child Abuse Prevention, Bullying Prevention, and Healthy Relationships curricula. They collect and record data and communicate with DCFS when applicable. They train school professionals to be certified prevention specialists for their school communities. They coordinate and implement outreach efforts and attend in-person community events. They assist in communications by creating content for social media and events. They also contribute to fundraising efforts by collecting donations, helping with the execution, and assisting in-person at the events. Education Specialists work as a member of the Education Team.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Reports to the Education Program Administrator
- Learns all required curricula for students, parents, and faculty
- Daily teaching K-12 students in multiple classrooms during the school day
- Complete training in trauma-informed care, Protective Factors for Educators, and Standards of Quality
- Manages and teaches parents and community members at Parent Nights and other community events
- Attends conferences and other community events where PCAU advertises
- Trains adults working with youth, community members and business leaders
- Assists with fundraising efforts
- Daily commute to Utah schools in Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Tooele, Utah, Wasatch and Summit counties
- Creates content for communications including blog writing, email marketing, and social media content
- Distributes, collects, and enters school data and evaluation forms from presentations
- Manages and completes projects as assigned
Qualifications:

Master’s degree in education, social work, psychology, child development, or a closely related field;
OR
Bachelor’s degree in a related field and at least five (5) years of professional experience;
OR
A minimum of five (5) years of demonstrated experience teaching children, or providing primary prevention education in child welfare or related fields.
Experience with teaching/public speaking and classroom management and engagement
Valid driver’s license, registered car and car insurance

Peer Parent
Position: Peer Parent
Reports To: Peer Parenting Supervisor
Starting Salary: $15.50/hourly
Status: 1099 contract
Job Summary: Work directly with at-risk families as identified by DCFS providing individualized and interactive instruction utilizing the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) and/or the SafeCare evidence based curriculum. Instruction will take place in client’s home for the purpose of maintaining or reunifying the family unit by reducing risk of abuse or neglect through assessment of strengths and needs, goal setting, intensive education and guided application of skills.
Qualifications:
- Have at least two years experience working directly with children.
- Experience with child welfare preferred
- Must pass a criminal history background check
- Must have reliable transportation
- Must be at least 21 years of age

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Individualize lessons to client while maintaining fidelity to the STEP curriculum
- Assist in translating needs into practical goals and identifying specific action steps
- Complete home visits 4 hours/week per family
- Participate in mandatory trainings.
- Communicate in timely manner with caseworkers, clients and supervisor
- Actively contribute as a member of the Child and Family Team
- Document contacts made with client, caseworker and collateral sources
